BAY CITY, MI — A Saginaw man accused of drunkenly crashing his car into a taxi on Interstate 75, leaving one man dead and another seriously injured, is a step closer to going before a jury. 14, waived his right to further proceedings in Bay County District Court, prompting a judge to bind his matter over to Circuit Court. Brown is charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury. The charges stem from a two-vehicle crash that occurred on I-75 near East North Union Road in Monitor Township about 3:37 a. m. on Sunday, May 17, according to police reports contained in court records. Campbell , 54, was driving his 1997 Chevrolet Astro van taxi containing Benjamin E. Martinson, 33, whom he had picked up from the World Expo of Beer in Frankenmuth and was taking to Midland County, police reports state. Brown was allegedly driving a 2014 Chevrolet Impala in the wrong direction on I-75 and the two vehicles collided head-on, police reports state. Bay County Central Dispatch began receiving calls at 3:26 a. m. of the Impala driving the wrong way and swerving, court records show.
