Rodriguez, who will be a senior at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley this fall, is among 156 second-quarter summer federal interns selected for the National Internship Program (NIP) of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities... She currently is an air intern for the Watershed, Fish Wildlife, Air & Rare Plants (WFWARP) for the U. S. Forest Service under the U. S. Department of Agriculture. 22, Rodriguez is helping update databases that provide information to the public on WFWARP’s website related to lichen, an indicator for air quality and pollution. “I not only get experience in updating databases, but I get to talk to scientists and people who work in the field regarding air quality, and people who work with other agencies. It is a really good way to make a connection to different areas of the country and to network,” said Rodriguez, who was born in Mexico and grew up in Rio Grande City.
