Fatal crash in Ottawa County - Sandusky Register
A 66-year-old Oak Harbor man died Saturday afternoon in a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Salem-Carroll and Behlman roads in Ottawa County. Swift was a passenger in the 2004 Chevrolet Venture van driven by his father James E. Swift Sr. , 86, of Oak Harbor, said Trooper Hector Burgos of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Sandusky post. James Swift Sr. stopped at the stop sign but then went through it and was struck by a 1994 GMC 2500 pickup truck driven by Chris A. Lawley, 26, also from Oak Harbor, according to the patrol. Troopers smelled alcohol, and James Swift Sr. admitted he had been drinking, Burgos said. Mark Swift, 66, died at the scene. The father and son were on their way home from Port Clinton, Burgos said but he did not know where they had been. James Swift was taken by medical helicopter to Mercy Saint Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. Kevin Keith and Michelle Protzman have lived in their home at the corner of W. Salem-Carroll and Behlman roads for five years. Keith and Protzman as well as neighbors from the two other homes that sit at the intersection ran outside. James Swift was still strapped in his seatbelt, unconscious. Mark Swift died quickly after the crash, Keith said. Source: www.sanduskyregister.com
