Why Prothane?

Prothane was launched in 1991 offering superior performing polyurethane based products. At the time, they started with less than 100 part numbers. Using it’s special formulations, precise engineering methods, and attention to customer’s needs they now offer an extensive line of polyurethane based performance products for both import and domestic cars and trucks.  All of Prothane's machining and manufacturing processes are done in the USA.

What Is Polyurethane? Polyurethane is a term used to describe a wide ranging family of elastomers with the characteristics of natural rubber - stretchy and elastic. Polyurethane, or urethane for short, is used as a solid cast material and can be as soft as a rubber band or as hard as plastic.

Why Use Polyurethane?

Production vehicles use rubber for most suspension bushings, mounts, and boots. Not only are rubber components on the soft side to accommodate the typical car and truck buyer, but they tend to deteriorate rapidly which contributes to premature component failure and a spongy ride with less than ideal performance handling. Prothane's specially formulated polyurethane can correct these conditions with improved drivability and years of superior service.

Will I Lose Ride Quality?

The original rubber bushing or mount was fairly soft which helped to dampen the noise and vibration generated by tires and road surfaces. Increasing the hardness of a bushing will allow more transmission of noise and vibrations. Prothane formulates the hardness (durometer) and design to reduce this effect as much as possible. A softer urethane bushing allows...
