Detroit’s Woodward Dream Cruise is the Mardi Gras of automotive events – an unabashed, unapologetic celebration of cars, cruising, and the culture associated with them. The mammoth cruise – the largest single-day car event in the world – just rolled through its 21st edition, building on a legacy that began in 1995 as a soccer field fundraiser. Running from the suburb of Ferndale, at Detroit’s northern border, and looping around the city of Pontiac, about 16 miles up Woodward’s tree-lined, multilane boulevard, the sheer scale of the Dream Cruise must be experienced to truly understand... Each parking lot becomes a de facto car show and the cities that border Woodward all offer their own Woodward-branded cars shows, special displays, and spectator activities. It’s truly automotive overload – and that’s just the half of it, because while the Dream Cruise officially takes place only one Saturday of August, enthusiasts start hitting the street for a solid week leading up to it, filling Woodward in the... Truth be told, those are the best times for viewing cars, because the ratio of cars to spectators is much more favorable.
