Elmira teen killed in crash remembered as caring - Elmira Star-Gazette

An Elmira teenager who was killed in a one-car accident Sunday is being remembered as a person anyone could turn to for help. Hannah Jerzak, 15, was a passenger in a 2002 Chrysler Sebring operated by Justin Jayne, 24, of Elmira. Jayne was eastbound on Dutch Hill Road shortly after 5 p. m. Sunday when he lost control around a curve and struck a utility pole in the Town of Sourthport, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office. Hannah, who was seated in the back, later died of her injuries at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Family friend Maria Simons set up a GoFundMe account in Jerzak’s memory to help her family. Hannah was best friends with Simons’ daughter. “She was very outgoing, she was caring, the type of girl if her friends were down she would make a laughing comment to bring them up,” Simons said. Hannah was in the same grade as her daughter and would have been a junior at Elmira High School this fall, Simons said. Hannah was also an avid softball player, she said. One of those passengers was 16-year-old Tessah Rosler, who was also close friends with Hannah. Hannah was a joy to be around, said Rosler’s mother, Bobbi Womack, who is helping to organize fundraising efforts. Source: www.stargazette.com
