Local culinary enthusiasts stirring up creativity in Cooking Club - Daily Republic
The first Monday of each month, a group of culinary-curious friends join together to explore new recipes and make new memories. Last fall, Natalie Muckey, of Mitchell, decided to form a group with the purpose of cooking and catching up. The group started small with Muckey and about five other women, but has now grown to more than a dozen members, with an even split of men... "And it has to be people who are adventurous and willing to try new things, because that's kind of our purpose—to make yourself go out of your comfort zone. The theme for their maiden meeting last year was pumpkin, and the only guideline was that the food contained that ingredient. Muckey said each member has the freedom to get as creative as they want with the dish they contribute, because there are no specific dishes assigned. "With the pumpkin theme we thought, 'What if we have six pumpkin pies. "Even if it would have been six pumpkin pies, they all would have been different, so just comparing them and talking about them would have been fun," Muckey said. "That right there is the epitome of Cooking Club, taking two people's things and putting them together," said member Ryan Houser during the group's July gathering. The meeting on July 20, which had been postponed because of the July 4 holiday, was multicultural themed. Source: www.mitchellrepublic.com
