Mosby files discrimination complaint with state agency against Board of Education - Thehour.com
During a May 19 visit to Brien McMahon High School, Mosby said the school's security requested his driver's license and held it until he left the building. Mosby believes it was a violation of BOE Policy 1250, which outlines the rules for visiting schools. The policy requires all visitors to register in the principal's office upon arriving at the school, the policy states, but it does not require visitors to provide photo identification. Board Policy 1250 was originally adopted in 1985 and revised in 1995. Board of Education Chairman Michael Lyons told The Hour Wednesday that a school security plan adopted in 2014, requires school visitors to present identification. "We adopted a school security plan. It's not a formal policy that would be found in the policy book but it is an adopted security plan," said Lyons. We have an entire security plan for the school system, which is far more elaborate than the 20-year old, one-page policy in the policy book. Mosby, a retired school custodian, said in the last year he has visited Nathan Hale Middle School, Brookside Middle School, Norwalk High School, West Rocks Middle School, Kendall Elementary School and Richard C. Briggs High School. None of the other schools requested he provide a photo ID. "You can't have a rule at one school and not have it at the other 18 schools," he said. Source: www.thehour.com
