"While not everyone who comes here places with a gold medal in competitions, what we want them to have is the love of doing this," Vergerovskiy said. A family business, Vengerovskiy runs the club with his son Roman and his wife Olga, who is a world champion rower. Maritime Rowing Club is home to the New Canaan High School crew team, and is also dedicated to competitive and recreational rowing for all ages and abilities. "We started in nearly 20 years ago with one small bay and we've grown into 100 middle school student rowers, 120 high school kids, and 60 master rowers," Vengerovskiy said. Since 1996, Maritime Rowing Club has offered rowing classes for all ages and skill levels from middle school to Learn-to-Row to Masters competitive racing. We are trying to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy being on the water, to love rowing, and to make the students better athletes," he said. Tucked away on Goldstein Place adjacent to the Norwalk River, Maritime is a team-oriented rowing club where all members work together. With a combination of two, four, or eight people working together and depending on each other, the strongest and weakest rowers find a way to work together.
