And while the car has always been not much more than a four cylinder Camry but with a six-cylinder engine in it, I've always thought it a good idea to use the Aurion name to separate the two. But when Toyota New Zealand stopped local assembly a few years later, the Camry also took over the four cylinder duties via cars imported from Australia. So you can guarantee it would have been with a collective sigh of relief within Toyota New Zealand walls that in late 2006 the company was able to announce that Avalon assembly had been halted, and the car was being replaced by a new V6-engined... Last year a total of 140 Aurions were sold in New Zealand, and while specific figures aren't available for this year so far, statistics to the end of July show that there have been 2429 large-car.
