Donte Blackwell, 23, was shot once in the torso about 1:20 a. m. Monday, Evanston police said, and was pronounced dead at Evanston Hospital. Another man was injured in the same shooting, which happened near the 1800 block of Dodge Avenue when police said two males on bicycles rode up, opened fire and fled north. The second victim, a 21-year-old from Evanston, was shot in the arm and leg, but he was treated at Evanston Hospital and released, authorities said. Blackwell's mother, Dorothy Adams said her son "had grown tired of it all," referring to the violence and had gone back to church. Dewayne Walker, who identified himself as Blackwell's uncle, said he and his nephew were at a barbecue and were standing in the backyard together moments before the shooting.
