2 hospitalized in 5-vehicle wreck near SW 21st and Washburn - Topeka Capital Journal
A five-vehicle crash late Thursday morning just south of the Washburn University campus sent two people to a Topeka hospital with injuries that police said weren’t believed to be life-threatening. The accident occurred at 11:24 a. m. in the 1600 block of S. W. 21st, about 100 feet west of S. W. Washburn Avenue. All five of the damaged vehicles clogged both eastbound lanes of traffic for more than an hour on S. W. 21st. Other motorists traveling east on S. W. 21st were diverted by police several blocks west of the accident scene until the vehicles were... Campbell said the accident occurred when a maroon-over-silver GMC Sierra pickup truck sideswiped a bluish-green Ford F-150 pickup truck. After the collision, the GMC pickup continued traveling east, rear-ending a maroon Dodge Grand Caravan minivan that had stopped or slowed for traffic, which started a chain-reaction. The minivan bumped the rear of a white four-door Honda Accord, which in turn ran into the back end of a green four-door Nissan Sentra. One person from Honda and one person from the Nissan were taken by American Medical Response ambulance to St. Francis Health, police said. The minivan had damage to its front and rear sections, while the Honda and Nissan appeared to come out of the accident relatively unscathed. The accident occurred on S. W. 21st Street about 100 feet west of its intersection with S. W. Washburn Avenue. Source: m.cjonline.com
