Veggie Van delivers fresh local produce to community - KRQE News 13

Mobile Market, a new pilot program, is bringing fresh food to under served neighborhoods in Bernalillo County. With fresh produce from local farmers, the “Veggie Van,” also offers cooking and nutrition classes to the neighborhoods around the county where healthy food is hard to find. Thursday, August 20, the Van will be in the International District at both First Nations Community HealthSource from 12 p. m. to 2 p. m. and the UNM Southeast Heights Clinic from 3 p. m. until 5 p. m. In addition to the International District... The Mobile Market accepts cash, credit, EBT Cash Cards and EBT SNAP. “Bernalillo County is proud to partner with the Healthy Here Coalition and bring fresh fruits and vegetables to underserved neighborhoods in the International District at affordable prices,” Commission Chair Maggie Hart Stebbins says. “The Mobile Market project supports good nutrition, better access to fresh produce and our local farmers, which are all critical to a strong and sustainable community,” says Commissioner Debbie O’Malley, a strong supporter of local agriculture. Additionally, Bernalillo County provided the van, a 2006 Dodge Sprinter, an employee to staff the program and about $9,000 in improvements to make the vehicle usable for this project.
