Stratford athlete dedicates win to slain Goose Creek coach - Charleston Post Courier

Four hours away from Goose Creek, Stratford High School sprinter Devonte Fuller honored one of the city’s own with a gold-medal performance in the New Balance Outdoor National on Friday. While wearing a black and gold ribbon to honor former Goose Creek High School girls’ track and field coach Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, Fuller claimed the national championship in the freshman 400-meter dash for Peak Performance Track Club in... Coleman-Singleton was a reverend at the church, which was holding a Bible study meeting. Stratford and Goose Creek high schools are city rivals, but Fuller was proud to carry a piece of Goose Creek nation around the track with him. “I wore the ribbon in support of the Singleton’s family,” Fuller said through an email Saturday. “I personally didn’t know Coach Singleton but when I asked people about her I heard nothing but amazing things about her, and my mom thought it would be best for us being from for Goose Creek to show our support. Peak Performance coach Twon Williams, a hurdle and sprint coach at Stratford during the school year, admitted he thought about canceling the trip to Greensboro after the shooting incident, which sparked outrage and grief all across the nation. Williams and Coleman-Singleton were friends and staunch supporters of track and field despite coaching rival teams. Source: www.postandcourier.com
