Pullin' their weight - Newsexaminer
For area tractor pull enthusiasts, Saturday night's National Tractor Pullers Association event, held inside the Roberts Park amphitheater, was a dream come true. For nearly seven hours, the amphitheater was filled with the sounds of loud engines propelling a variety of vehicles down the track, those sounds mixed in with the voice of long-time announcer Duane Edwards enthusiastically describing the action... Rainfall in recent days had made the track so wet, a decision of whether to hold the pull couldn't be made until late in the morning. But by the time the first tractor pulled into position to hook up to the sled, the sun could be seen ducking in an out behind clouds, making for almost perfect weather for the competitors and their fans. "The track was very hard and sticky," New Castle's Alex Miers said after competing in the Diesel Stock division. His father, Kenny, ran in the Semi truck division, and offered a similar prognosis of the track's condition. Kenny Miers wound up doing better than his son, taking his 1999 Kenworth 194. 11 feet down the track. In spite of the wet conditions on the track, one participant after another offered kudos to the individuals tasked with getting the track ready, crediting them for even making the event possible.
