Fire official: Teen, 16, critical following crash - Livingston Daily
A 16-year-old Brighton-area teen was in critical condition Tuesday evening after crashing his vehicle into an old tree in Hamburg Township. Deputy Fire Chief Nick Miller said it took about 31 minutes to extricate the teen from the 1999 Dodge Dakota and he was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor via the hospital’s Survival Flight helicopter. A passerby initially reported to 911 that a “car was against the tree” around 4:44 p. m. and an off duty, out-of-state firefighter arrived on scene and reported that there was a driver in the vehicle. Miller said preliminary investigation indicated the teenager was traveling south on Bauer Road when “he left the road” for an unknown reason, crashing into a tree north of Bishop Lake Road. The big tree was far enough back we could work around the door and opened the door in the wrong direction to get it open. Firefighters had the teen extricated at 5:17 p. m. Meanwhile, Brighton Area firefighters were establishing a landing zone for the Survival Flight helicopter, which landed in a school complex housing Maltby Middle and Hornung Elementary schools. Emergency crews closed Bauer Road between Bishop Lake and Cunningham Lake roads while they were on scene. Source: www.livingstondaily.com
