Milwaukee police credit tips from the public for leading to the arrest of a suspect in an attempted child abduction last week. A 25-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested Saturday after police say he was seen in security video picking up a 7-year-old girl in the 1100 block of N. 17th St. on Thursday. In the video, a man walks past two children, then turns back and picks one up in his arms. Big shove foils would-be armed robber Police say an armed robbery attempt outside a Walmart in Brown Deer was thwarted when the victim's companion pushed the suspect away. According to Brown Deer police, the assailant approached a 47-year-old woman in the parking lot about 7:15 p. m. Saturday, showed a gun and demanded her purse. But after a 59-year-old man who was with the woman shoved the suspect, he ran to another vehicle and drove from the scene. Deceased firefighter was Whitewater High graduate The firefighter killed battling a forest fire in California last week was a Whitewater High School graduate. Ruhl, 38, a U. S. Forest Service firefighter, was in a vehicle in the Modoc National Forest scouting for ways to suppress flames when authorities lost contact with him on Thursday.
