Dodge County assessor abruptly resigns and is arrested - Lincoln Journal Star

FREMONT -- Dodge County Assessor Brittny King abruptly resigned Wednesday, was arrested on theft charges and was notified she may lose her state certification. King resigned during an exchange with Dodge County supervisors during their regular meeting. Shortly afterward, she was arrested on theft charges by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office. But it appears missing state filing deadlines was what prompted the county and state to take action. King had missed an Aug. 25 deadline for filing taxable value reports for Dodge County school districts, and when the report was submitted it had omitted one district entirely. During discussion of the missed deadlines, Supervisor Dan Weddle read a prepared statement and then moved to have the board ask for the assessor’s resignation. “Before any action or any emergency item is declared, I’m going to give you the opportunity to tender your resignation right now,” board Chairman Bob Missel added. There it is. Good luck,” King said. I resign,” King answered moments before walking out of the meeting. “Good luck to Dodge County. A short time after the meeting, King was taken into custody by the sheriff’s office on a warrant that was issued Wednesday morning. Source: journalstar.com
