Colby McLeod-Dunn, 14, is in a wheelchair due to cerebral palsy which makes getting him in and out of vehicles difficult. His parents, Kim McLeod and Darrel Dunn had been using a Ford Windstar minivan to get around but as McLeod-Dunn got older and bigger, McLeod was finding it harder and harder to transfer him from his chair to the vehicle so they started looking for... “Things were just getting difficult,” said McLeod. About a year ago, a mechanic friend of theirs was working on a woman’s van and commented to her that his friends were in need of a wheelchair van of their own. The woman said her old van was just sitting in her yard and if they wanted it, they could have it. “She said if it was going to a needy family we could have the keys,” said McLeod. Stunned, the family accepted her offer and brought the van, which needed some work as it was rusting and had been sitting for almost a year previous. Dunn, who works for FedEx, knew Martin Furlipa of Hustle Fleet Servicing in Wetaskiwin as Furlipa’s company services FedEx’s vehicles.
