A John Street resident reported a kayak stolen from his property near the LCBO overnight Sunday, while an Elgin Street homeowner said a brazen thief damaged her gate and fence trying to enter her home in the middle of the day Aug. In the latter case, the would-be thief, a gray-haired man with a dark hatchback, had a drill but was thwarted because he could get through the home’s gate just after 1 p. m. , the homeowner said. She expressed surprise that the man would target a home on a busy street during the broad daylight (he home is near the Baptist Church). The suspect in the theft of the kayak was a well-dressed man in his 30s or 40s in a white Ford Ranger extend-a-cab pickup with a white cover, say the victims. He used bolt-cutters, which he dropped when police were called, to cut the kayak off the fence. The theft happened about 3:30 a. m. A screen door was damaged at a property on Carss Street in Arnprior. A screen in a door was cut at a home on Edward Street South in Arnprior on Friday, Aug. The homeowner knows the suspect and decided not to involve the police, after calling 9-1-1 to report the incident. A home on River road in McNab-Braeside was broken into Aug. The suspect was observed by a witness getting into a grey four-door car, similar to a Toyota Corolla or Dodge Dart, report OPP. Source: www.insideottawavalley.com
