Pickup kills Eaton woman crossing street - Richmond

Lynette Dershem, 67, was struck by a 1996 Ford Ranger pickup at 6:24 a. m. as she crossed Eaton Lewisburg Road in the 100 block, said Lt. Mark Nichols of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Nichols said Dershem was returning from the Eaton Place restaurant to the laundromat, having apparently begun laundry before eating breakfast at the restaurant. Her car was parked at the laundromat, Nichols said. Neither alcohol nor speed is suspected to be a factor in the accident, Nichols said, and the pickup did have its headlights on. “Unfortunately, it’s just one of those tragic incidents,” he said. Nichols said Dershem was not crossing in a crosswalk, the area was not lighted and she was not wearing any reflective clothing in the predawn darkness. “There was reduced lighting in the area,” Nichols said.
