LOCK HAVEN — A co-worker has been accused of killing a Clinton County woman who was last seen in 1991 when she left work just outside of Lock Haven to go to lunch. Loyd Groves, 65, of Beaver, was charged Thursday with first- and third-degree homicide in the death of Katherine Dolan Heckel. Groves is being held without bail awaiting a preliminary hearing in Lock Haven. Investigators had considered him a suspect since Heckel's disappearance. "For more than two decades investigators have worked to bring to justice the man responsible for Kathy Heckel's disappearance," Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane said. We hope that the arrest of Loyd Groves brings some relief to her family, friends and colleagues. Heckel was working at the International Paper Company on July 15, 1991, when she called her two children just before lunch to tell them she planned to run an errand, then grab some lunch. Heckel's silver 1990 Ford Festiva was found in a parking lot at Lock Haven Hospital three days after her disappearance. Police in 1993 classified the case as a homicide and a judge declared Heckel dead on July 15, 1998.
