New animal control truck in Addison to expedite animal transfers, facilitate ... - Dallas Morning News

As Animal Control officers Ryan Wies and Kevin Kimbrell prepare to leave the Addison Police Station for a regular patrol, they scan through the vehicle to make sure all equipment is in place. A catch pole, gloves and water are all tucked away into various compartments of Addison’s 2015 Ford F-250, which is specifically designed to tote along animals. Like some other smaller muncipalities, Addison doesn’t have its own animal shelter, so the truck makes it easier to transport animals to Addison’s boarding partner facilities. “Now that we are able to transport more than two animals at a time, it makes things so much easier,” Wies said. In the old truck, if Wies had picked up a couple of dogs on the loose, he would have to transport them to a boarding facility or the police station’s holding space before responding to a call about a raccoon. In addition to saving time, the truck’s mounted chassis with temperature-controlled compartments also makes transports more comfortable for the animals, Kimbrell said. Addison’s budget for Animal Control is $167,482 for fiscal year 2015, which includes the money for the new truck along with $83,482 for personnel and $39,000 for services, training, tools and uniforms.
