WESTLAKE, Ohio — Five people have been arrested following a rash of car thefts and thefts from cars in Westlake in the past week and a half. Darnayzha Canada of North Olmsted, Andrea Nurse of Westlake and Nigel Thompson of Cleveland — all 18 years old — were arrested after police said they stole items from cars in the middle of the city Aug. The car thefts were reported in a neighborhood near the city's center, close to the spot where Canada, Nurse and Thompson were arrested, Westlake Police Capt. Police are trying to determine if the thefts from cars reported Aug. 26 are connected to the car thefts reported earlier in the week, Turner said. The owner of a 2004 Lexus SUV said the keys to the SUV and a purse belonging to her daughter-in-law were left inside the truck when it was stolen from her driveway on the night of Aug. The owner said she noticed it was stolen when her daughter-in-law received several text messages regarding suspicious activity on her bank account, the report said. A 2000 Ford pickup was reported stolen from Center Ridge Road on the night of Aug. The doors to another Ford pickup parked nearby were damaged in an apparent attempt to steal it. The next night, a 2007 Pontiac G6 and a 2006 Pontiac Torrent were reported stolen from nearby driveways on Melibee Drive, a report said.
