IONIA COUNTY, MI -- Thirteen years after a man was killed by a hit-and-run driver near Saranac, a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction in the case. The Ionia County Sheriff's Department authorized the reward in hopes of receiving fresh leads into who caused the crash that killed 70-year-old Gordan Wesley Cozat, of Coleman, on June 16, 2002, which was Father's Day. Cozat got out of the car to ask directions from a person in another vehicle that had stopped at the stop sign. He was still standing at the side of the road when a light-colored, possibly silver or white, SUV or pickup, crested the hill traveling north at a high rate of speed and hit Cozat about 10:13 p. m. Cozat had jumped back into the path of the... The suspect's vehicle turned west on David Highway and continued toward Saranac without stopping. The vehicle that hit him likely sustained minimal damage to the right side, such as a broken or missing right front marker light, investigators said. It's described as a 1994-2000 GMC truck or Yukon or 1994-1999 Chevrolet Suburban.
