South Macon residents want a playground - 13WMAZ

Antonio Lewis-Ross said the only play areas for kids nearby are private, like at churches and schools. That's why next Tuesday, Ross and other organizers are hosting a community meeting at the Pendleton Homes Community Center. "We had previous meetings with Schlesinger and he's going to get back with us and he's bringing people from the Mayor's Office, code enforcement," said Ross. Ross said the Pendleton Homes apartments, that are less than a mile away from the proposed site, used to be home to a playground, but it burned down in the past year. "Our children are playing in the streets and neighbors are complaining," said Marie Hamilton. She has lived near Lynmore Avenue since 1995. Hamilton said they need a playground not only to keep children safe, but to give the community a sense of pride. The meeting will take place on June 30th, at the Pendleton Homes Community Center.
