From the time he was a boy, David Paull worked at Medical Weight Loss Clinic . His father co-owned it, and later, Paull said, he took it over. Paull — along with his partner and brother-in-law Nick Welham — is trying to take the $15-million-a-year company from a business that for years had appealed to people’s desire to shed pounds quick to look good at a low cost into a high-tech... It has partnered with the Detroit Medical Center and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. "In the last few years, there's been a lot of corporate change," Paull, 39, said, pointing out the investment in more information technology, new personnel, and a new image. "We were on the down and dirty side of weight loss, where people wanted to see the before and after photo and get the best price they could and lose weight cheap and quick," he said. In making changes, Paull said, the company lost some customers — and about $2 million in revenues. "If you want to be taken seriously, you have to present a serious image and try to project what you are about," Paull said. "People aren't seeing us run lose-all-the-weight-you-want for $99 specials.
