FULLERTON – A man suspected of stealing a vehicle earlier in the day finally surrendered to officers after they spent hours trying to talk him off the roof of an Fullerton apartment complex on Tuesday night, police said. Randy Dowling, 34, of Fullerton was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, possession of stolen property, methamphetamine possession and resisting arrest, after he surrendered shortly before midnight, Anaheim police Sgt. Dowling refused to come down around 6:30 p. m. from the three-story Palm Gardens Apartments building in the 400 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue, Fullerton police Lt. Mike Chocek said. Police suspect Dowling was driving a stolen vehicle that Fullerton police identified through a LoJack system in the parking lot of a Walmart, 88 E. Orangethope Ave. “The suspect stole a late ’90s Honda Prelude in Anaheim and led police there on a high-speed pursuit into Fullerton,” Fullerton police Sgt. Fullerton police notified Anaheim officers, who arrived and observed the vehicle for a few hours. The driver left the area, and Fullerton police were called back to assist around 6:20 p. m. in the area of Highland and Orangethorpe avenues, police said. “The suspect crashed his car into a building, then ran into that apartment building and up to the roof,” Hamel said.
