Honda Expands Takata Airbag Recall To Include 2001 Accord, 2004 Civic, 2008 Pilot - Washington Post

The long list of Honda vehicles being recalled to fix explosive Takata airbags just got a lot longer. As you might remember, the long, complex system of recalls related to Takata-brand airbags has been marred by regional actions focused primarily on Gulf Coast states. The vehicles added to the recall list are the 2001 Honda Accord, 2004 Honda Civic, and 2008 Honda Pilot. As with other recalled models, the airbag systems in those vehicles were designed using ammonium nitrate as a propellant, and that compound can become extremely volatile under certain conditions. Takata's airbags have been linked to at least six deaths, primarily in the U. S. Honda says that it will notify Accord, Civic, and Pilot owners about the recall, though it hasn't indicated when it will mail those notices. When owners receive them, they'll be able to take their vehicles to a Honda dealer, who will replace the driver-side airbag inflator.
