Olivette woman killed when minivan rear-ends stalled pickup on Blanchette Bridge - STLtoday.com
An Olivette woman was killed and her husband seriously injured late Sunday night when their minivan rear-ended a stalled pickup truck on the Blanchette Bridge, police say. Nothum said the truck's driver, a man from St. Charles whose age and identity weren't available, got out of his truck and started walking westbound to fill up a gas can. A short time later, a 2005 Honda Odyssey driven by Stanislaw Pierzak, 68, of Olivette, struck the back of the pickup, spinning both vehicles around. Pierzak's wife, Wiktoria G. Pierzak, 65, also of Olivette, was a passenger in the minivan and died at the crash scene. The pickup truck's driver never returned to his pickup truck but called state troopers later Monday to report that he had left his truck on the bridge to get gas. The Blanchette Bridge carries Interstate 70 traffic over the Missouri River between St. Louis and St. Charles counties. Preliminary reports that more than two vehicles were involved in the crash were incorrect, Nothum said. Troopers also initially thought the driver of the truck may have fallen into the river.
