Police: Man found dead in burning home was homicide victim - KMBC Kansas City

Williams Simmons was found dead in the home in the 300 block of Oakley Avenue. Police said his death was suspicious but waited for autopsy results to come back before classifying it as a homicide. Police said they're looking for Simmons' black 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe in connection with the case. Friends told KMBC 9 News that Simmons, a mechanic, recently had an issue with someone about that SUV. Simmons' son, William Simmons Jr. , made his first visit to the home where his father died on Monday. "The flowers on the mailbox, that tells you that he was loved," Simmons said. Simmons' children have struggled with the same question that many of his friends have. "He would rather eat a peanut butter sandwich than eat a steak (if it would) help you out," Simmons said. He hopes someone will find the SUV, which hasn't been seen since his father's death. "I'm not really going to use the word closure because there is no closure," Simmons said.
