Blues find prices steep as trade deadline nears - STLtoday.com

On Thursday, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong told the Post-Dispatch that he wouldn't be "shocked" if the club did nothing, but that doesn't mean he has shuttered the doors and unplugged his cell phone. It's believed the Blues would like to add a veteran top-nine forward such as Calgary's Curtis Glencross or Arizona's Antoine Vermette and/or a depth defenseman like the Coyotes' Zbynek Michalek. But the prices at this point appear to be too steep, which may in fact lead the Blues to stand pat at the deadline. The Blues have been impressed with the play of Dmitrij Jaskin , who has nine goals and 13 points in 34 games, but after being demoted to the fourth line in Thursday's 2-1 shootout win over Winnipeg, can the club count on Jaskin not wearing out... The Blues are currently carrying Chris Porter and Joakim Lindstrom as extra forwards, but the team considers both to be fourth-liners. So even while the Blues are fully healthy at forward, not factoring in the chance of an injury, there are concerns about the depth of the top nine without an addition. On defense, the Blues might not even be considering an acquisition at the trade deadline if not for the absence of Kevin Shattenkirk. Source: www.stltoday.com
