Lakeland man killed in crash - The Ledger

James Birkhold, 1123 Kells Court in Lakeland, was driving a 2014 Lexus ES 350 east on Beaker Boulevard, said Gary Gross, the department's spokesman. When Birkhold pulled onto Harden Boulevard to make a left turn, his car was hit on the driver's door by a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Kyle Cooper, 24, at about 1:40 p. m. The impact from the collision sent Cooper's truck off of... Cooper and his passenger, 20-year-old Morgan Thomas, both of Mulberry, were transported to LRHMC. Gross said the preliminary investigation shows the Lexus violated the Silverado's right of way, but investigators still are trying to determine exactly what happened. Dunn, who said he's known Thomas since she was a baby, had no idea she and Cooper were in the wreck until he saw it on Facebook. Dunn said he visited Cooper and Thomas, who is six months pregnant, in the emergency room Sunday evening. Although she has bruises from the seat belt, Dunn said, Thomas and her baby are doing fine. Cooper was discharged Sunday, but doctors plan on keeping Thomas overnight to monitor her vitals and keep an eye on her baby, Dunn said.
