NHTSA Opens Review of Chrysler Crossfire Over Possible Backlite Issue - glassBYTEs

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is reviewing a potential issue with 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Convertibles backlites after a consumer petitioned the agency for an investigation. Chrysler has extended the warranty coverage on the model’s backlite adhesion in certain Southern states after reports that backlites have been separating from their adhesive bonds. More than 150 consumers have complained to NHTSA about the issue, many in states outside of the extended warranty coverage. “In a letter dated June 25, 2014, a consumer petitioned NHTSA concerning Chrysler’s decision to limit its extended warranty coverage on the convertible top back glass in model year 2005 Crossfire vehicles to certain U. S. states,” according to an... Chrysler extended its warranty coverage for this potential issue in September 2011 for vehicles originally shipped to dealers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. “Owners of the vehicles in the covered states were provided an extended warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first,” according to the ODI document.
