Deputy sheriff injured in crash that closed U.S. 30 for 2 hours - OregonLive.com

A Columbia County sheriff's deputy was injured Friday evening when a car got rear-ended and pushed into the path of his marked Chevy Tahoe SUV, officials said Saturday. Oregon State Police investigators have not yet decided whether anyone will be charged. Deputy Roy Caldwell, 47, was taken to St. John's Medical Center in Longview, Washington, where he was treated and later released. Diane Castillo, 54, of Rainier had stopped while traveling southeast on the highway and was waiting to make a left turn when her Hyundai Sonata was rear-ended by a 1997 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Laurence Keith Frane, 53, of St. Helens. The Jeep's impact pushed the Sonata into the path of the oncoming Tahoe, resulting in a sideswipe impact between the Sonata and the Tahoe, OSP investigators concluded. Caldwell was the only driver taken to the hospital, said Sgt. Source: www.oregonlive.com
