Mercedes-Benz SLK 250. Road Test. Back in 1996 the first-generation SLK two-seat sports car caused something of a stir with its folding hard-top roof. Now we're well into generation three, which launched in 2011, and we're examining how the popular 250 model is holding up to the test of time. Then there's the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class. If you like being looked at, then roof down on a nice day the SLK is a good-looking winner – as presumably you are basking in reflected glory. But for the rest of the week, much better to take the C-Class, ML-Class – or any other member of Benz's Alphabet Soup of cars – for most motoring chores. Oh and talking about cost, at $96,500 (plus on-road costs) for the 1. 8-litre turbocharged SLK 250 being tested here is not exactly a cheap purchase either. Having made it sound like this is a car only for the shallowest of egocentrics, it's time to mount something of a defence. After all, it's not like the SLK 250 is alone among roadsters in being cramped for space, limited in its use and expensive. Source: www.motoring.com.au

With two seats, a luxurious interior, and a standard retractable hardtop, the SLK is like a scaled-down SL-class for around half the price. The SLK250 is powered by a 201-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. Instrumented Test – 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 Manual The manual transmission certainly increases the SLK’s driver-engagement factor, and we appreciated the shifter’s tight throws and the clutch’s precise takeup. We might be Savers of the Manuals , but this manual’s savior is a different engine. (This may happen when the SLK is updated within a year or so, but we understand that the manual may be dropped at that time. Disable the stability control, vector the SLK’s nose into a tight corner while dabbing the brakes, and the back end whips around in a decisive, easily controlled manner. Our test car came equipped with the optional Dynamic Handling package ($990), which includes adaptive dampers with Sport and Comfort modes, as well as the Sport package ($2500), which brought 18-inch AMG wheels, a body kit, and red ambient cabin... Hampered slightly by axle hop off the line, the SLK nonetheless hit 60 mph in 6. 3 seconds and circled our skidpad to the tune of 0. 95 g. That zero-to-60 figure is 0. 9-second off.
