FM 423 to be designated as US Army Sergeant Enrique Mondragon Memorial Highway - Star Local Media

Enrique was killed in action in Afghanistan in December 2012. He was a military police officer assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 173rd Special Troops Battalion, 173rd Airborne Combat Team based out of Germany. Greg Abbott officially designated FM 423 as the U. S. Army Sergeant Enrique Mondragon Memorial Highway. However the road to renaming FM 423 began around May 2013. Mondragon said Rep. “I was just honored with the thought of it being a possibility,” Mondragon said. You can’t drive through The Colony or Little Elm without going through FM 423. ”. Mondragon said she and her husband often traveled along FM 423, especially in the beginning of their relationship. “The road always brings back memories of the beginning of our relationship, and now his name is going to be there,” Mondragon said. The Mondragon’s met when they were 17 years old working at JC Penny in Frisco. She lived in Little Elm, and he lived in The Colony. He lived in Dallas until he was in high school,” Mondragon said. Mondragon said Enrique mentioned a desire to join the military when the two first met, but she thought it was just an idea. She said in the meantime, Enrique attended college but eventually chose to join the military at 19 years old. Source: starlocalmedia.com
