This is a vintage Carroll Shelby Accessory real wood grip steering wheel. These were offered by Shelby as an accessory in his High Performance catalogs. This style wheel was on the cover of the 1969 catalog as shown in the last 2 pictures. I believe the wheel was made by Grant for Shelby which is great since the Grant style hub kits work on this wheel with no mods. The Grant horn buttons also fit. I am unsure of the application of the hub on the wheel now. I imagine it is Ford but who knows after all these years. The wheel measures just about 15 inches in diameter as shown. This wheel would be great for an original Shelby or a vintage build. You definitely get bragging rights with this wheel!
This wheel is in very good original condition as shown. The chrome spokes are very nice with great shine and reflection and VERY light scattered pitting. The wood is very nice with a couple tiny hairline splits around one joint as shown which you have to hunt for to find. These would go away if you refinish the wood but it would almost be a shame to refinish this wheel since it is in such nice original condition. The hub is in good shape but as I mentioned earlier, I am not sure of the application of the hub. Hubs for most every application are still available from Grant and others. This wheel will look amazing on a variety of muscle cars or hot rods. That said, it really deserves to be installed on a Shelby, it is that rare and nice. Don't miss this wheel.
