This is because the new Bronco will have the same bones as the new Ranger. In previous years – save for the Bronco II years – the rugged SUV shared its greasy bits with the F-Series pickups. However, just the fact that Ford is considering creating a new body-on-frame SUV and not some soft-roading, uni-body SUV like the Explorer has become should make most people happy. What’s more, Ford is looking to challenge the Wrangler with the rumored Bronco, so no need to toss an F-Series chassis under it. The big mystery remains the looks of this rumored SUV. While a rebadged Everest would likely be the cheapest route for Ford, I highly doubt anyone would consider it a potential rival to the Wrangler. Now, a refreshed and slightly toned-down production version of the 2004 Bronco concept would be something off-road enthusiasts would look to as a rival to the legendary Jeep.
