Designed by McLaren F1 guru Gordon Murray and built by ex-racer Chris Craft, the LCC Rocket didn’t just look like a 1960s F1 car, it went like one too. Weighing just 370kg and powered by a 143bhp 1. 0-litre Yamaha motorcycle engine, it ran from 0 to 60mph in under four seconds and handled superbly. Back in 1992 the price was £38,800. Under 50 original Rockets were made, so prices remain high, but it’s a great investment and a remarkably good car. 2 - Reliant Scimitar SS1 (1984-1990). Proving that light weight is always a good start for any sports car, the tiny Reliant Scimitar SS1 drop-top cranked out a 126mph top speed and a 0-60 time of just 6. 6sec when powered by Nissan’s 135bhp 1.... Not everyone liked the Michelotti styling, so only 1500 Scimitars were ever built, but all-round independent suspension and a 50/50 weight distribution gave it great handling and the rustproof glassfibre body means you can still find good examples...
