Mothballed Mitsubishi Windmill Plant Placed On Market - Times Record

While continuing its efforts to find a use for its 200,000-square-foot building at Chaffee Crossing, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has placed the mothballed property on the real estate market with Dallas-based real estate company CBRE. Built in 2011 with $40 million in industrial revenue bonds issued by the city of Fort Smith through the Bank of New York Mellon, the building was mothballed in April 2012 and Mitsubishi has said since then it was reviewing its options. In a statement issued Wednesday from Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas, Corporate Communications Manager Susan Fernandez said the building was for sale, but the company “continues to explore all possibilities to bring jobs to Fort Smith... “While we continue to seek the right use of the plant within Mitsubishi, we have listed this property for sale in the event another company is interested in purchasing this plant and creating jobs in Fort Smith,” Fernandez wrote in an email.
