Sometimes, this takes the form of actual mechanical improvements, other times truck-makers simply get more savvy about how to define their towing capabilities as “class-leading. ” Chevrolet moves the bar forward in both regards with its updated 2015 Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD models. The bow-tie brand boasts “best-in-class payload and conventional towing” for the new HD, which sounds mighty until you consider that the Silverado’s all-out towing with a fifth-wheel isn’t class-leading. Still, you can carry more weight in the Chevy’s bed and lug more behind its trailer hitch than you can with Ford’s Super Duty or Ram’s fifth-wheel-towing king, the 3500 HD. That’s because the heavy-duty trucks look pretty much identical to the 1500, albeit with a slightly more bluff-like face.
