SWAT raids net 3 in Northeast El Paso drive-by shooting case - El Paso Times

Three men were arrested after a pair of SWAT team raids late Monday night in connection with a drive-by shooting earlier this month in Northeast El Paso. El Paso police gang investigators arrested Michael Murphy, 22, on Monday and arrested Victor Mata, 19, on Tuesday afternoon when he surrendered at police headquarters, department spokesman Sgt. A third man, Samuel Lewis, 20, was arrested on suspicion of trying to hit a police officer with a truck while helping Mata escape Monday night, Carrillo said. The special weapons and tactics team was used to serve the arrest and search warrants "because of the nature of the offense," Carrillo said. The raids occurred simultaneously at 11 p. m. at homes about two miles apart in the 10000 block of Kenworthy Street and 10400 block of Hodges Circle, officials said. Police said Murphy was arrested when investigators saw him leave the home on Hodges Circle before the raid. While the raids were occurring, police saw Mata in the area in a Toyota Tacoma allegedly driven by Lewis, Carrillo said. Lewis was arrested at the crash scene but Mata left before police arrived, Carrillo said. Lewis, of the 10900 block of England Place, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault on a peace officer and hindering apprehension. Source: www.elpasotimes.com
