Man killed while out of his disabled pickup - The San Diego Union-Tribune

A Coronado man was killed Monday when he was struck by an SUV in the gore point between westbound Interstate 8 and state Route 125 in La Mesa, a California Highway Patrol officer said. Reynaldo Ventura Nava, 88, had gotten out of his disabled 1994 Toyota pickup about 3:30 p. m. and had walked to a nearby call box to call for help, the Medical Examiner's Office said. A woman driving a 2014 Chevy Traverse crossed the gore point "at the last moment" from westbound I-8 to Route 125 and did not see the man or the pickup, Pearlstein said. Her SUV ended up blocking a transition lane to Route 125. The pickup was pushed to the left, blocking the far-left lane of westbound I-8. Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision, Pearlstein said. Source: www.sandiegouniontribune.com
