General Motors Defers Oshawa Assembly Line Closure to 17 - Zacks.com

Meanwhile, the automaker announced that it will continue operations at its Oshawa, Ontario assembly line till 2017. General Motors has been planning the closure of this plant for over a decade now. The company announced that it will be investing C$12 million ($9. 14 million) in the plant to boost production of Chevrolet Equinox SUVs and for some related changes at the separate CAMI Assembly. At present, Chevrolet Equinox is being produced in the nearby CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. The CAMI plant manufactures more Equinox chassis than its capacity to paint and assemble them. The assembly line in question is one of the two remaining Oshawa assembly lines of General Motors. It manufactures the previous model of Chevrolet Impala, along with the Chevrolet Equinox. Meanwhile, the other Oshawa assembly line manufactures the current models of Chevrolet Impala, Buick Regal, Chevrolet Camaro and Cadillac XTS.
