New GM takes over the wheel of Ford's $1B investment in Kansas City - Kansas City Business Journal

With all the retooling done, Ford brought in one of its veteran managers to take over production. Tim Young is a second-generation employee at Ford and has been working at the company for 31 years, starting as a production line worker in Detroit. After school, he took a job at the Wixon Assembly Plant in Michigan, working on production of the luxury Lincoln brands for about a decade. "This is the ninth assembly plant that I've had the chance to work in," Young said. I actually spent time at the Dearborn Assembly plant when they were building the Mustang, back in the early part of the 2000s. It was also the time we decided to build Dearborn Truck Plant. Young most recently worked four years as the general manager of the Flatrock Assembly Plant in Michigan, which makes the Ford Mustang. "The Mustang is such an iconic brand for Ford Motor Co. It has global brand recognition, but it has only been built and sold in North America for the first 50 years of its existence. Young said taking over the Kansas City Assembly Plant is another great opportunity, since it builds two of the Ford's most important vehicles. The F-150 is the best-selling truck in North America, and the Transit is the best-selling van. Source: www.bizjournals.com
