Henglefelt, 59, of Ethan, has sold hundreds of thousands of fireworks to people who make their annual trek to the stand. Now, South Dakota retailers are mostly limited to a nine-day sales period from June 27 to July 5 every year. That doesn't keep South Dakota fireworks stands from doing strong business. In 2014, more than $11 million in taxable sales was done through retail fireworks, which is the most recorded by the South Dakota Department of Revenue. South Dakota, in comparison to neighboring states, has loose laws regarding fireworks sales. Dakota Pyro has small fireworks for less than a $1, all the way up to a $600 mega pack that stands more than 6 feet in the air when on its end.
