State enters into plea agreement with driver of Highway 59 bus in fatal 2014 ... - Gillette News Record

The plea agreement was entered Friday, and a sentencing hearing in conjunction with the plea agreement between the parties will be scheduled. Steel was driving a Coach USA/Powder River Transportation bus at about 7:30 a. m. May 14, 2014, when she collided with a line of cars that were stopped for construction south of Gillette. Other bus passengers and cars behind Steel’s bus noted that the large vehicle did not slow before the crash and collided with the Impala at highway speed. Five other vehicles were hit, either directly by the bus or by other cars that were directly hit. Of those, a black 2002 Ford F-250 was flipped upside down during the crash. Many of the occupants of those cars, as well as several passengers on the bus, were taken to the hospital, treated and released. After Steel had her blood drawn and sent for toxicology reports, results came back negative of any substance that would have impaired her judgment on the day of the crash, according to court documents. Signs warning of the four miles of construction had been set for 1,500 feet ahead of the construction zone. Source: www.gillettenewsrecord.com
