Hit & Run Driver Strikes 12-Year-Old on Bike - WLOS

JACKSON COUNTY, N. C. -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol is asking for help finding the driver who hit a 12-year-boy on his bike and left the scene. Troopers say it happened Sunday about 7 p. m. on Old Cullowhee Road in Jackson County. August Lusk, 12, was riding his new bike outside his parent's apartment when they say a black pick-up truck hit the young boy and didn't stop. “Older man in his 60s could hit a 12-year-old child, know that he hit him and leave the scene. Natt says the pick-up that hit his son appeared to be an older model Ford F-150 with a tan camper top. Troopers estimate the pick-up was traveling 65-70 miles an hour in a zone posted 55. They also say pieces of the headlight left behind indicate the pick-up was either a Ford F-150 between the years 1980-86, or a Bronco. August’s family, including his father’s girlfriend, Deana McCall say he had just received the bike as a gift from his great grandparents, a reward for having good grades. Both McCall and August’s father say traffic moves too fast on the stretch of Old Cullowhee Road outside their apartment at Carolina Village. Source: www.wlos.com
