Allentown's America on Wheels displays pickup trucks, from Model T to modern - Allentown Morning Call

From the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra to the Ford F-150 and RAM 3500, today's posh pickup trucks are a far cry from the primitive workhorses of the early 20th century. At America on Wheels' new exhibit, "Getting' the Job Done: Evolution of the Pickup Truck," this transformation is celebrated in a display of 14 vehicles that include a black 1924 homespun Ford Model T conversion to a gold 1983 Dodge Rampage. There's even a collection of stylish, chrome-laden trucks from the 1950s and 1960s, including a re-creation of California customizer George Barris' white, tan and copper 1955 "Kopper Kart," and a red 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Rampside, featuring a... Forman, who splits her time between Philadelphia and southern Utah, will hold a meet-and-greet at the museum on June 21. "Pickup trucks have become a staple in American life," says museum Executive Director Linda Merkel. " This is the first time the museum has showcased trucks in its changing exhibit gallery, she says.
